The UN has confirmed the compliance of Ukraine’s inventory of greenhouse gas emissions with international requirements, reads a statement posted on the official website of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Thus, Ukraine may apply for restoration of the status of the country liable for greenhouse gas emissions trading.

A reminder that the previous national inventory report of Ukraine did not satisfy international experts. And last year, the UN temporarily banned Ukraine from trading quotas for greenhouse gas emissions.

In October 2011, an expert review team examined the new national inventory of greenhouse gas emissions – for 1990-2009, developed by experts from the Targeted Environmental Investments Fund. The document underwent examination with no significant observations made.

A national inventory of anthropogenic emissions from sources and absorption by sinks of greenhouse gases is the basis of indicators of emissions and absorption of greenhouse gases over the years 1990-2009 in all sectors of industry, agriculture, energy, forestry, sector waste and recycling, a number of other industries.
